Q: How did you get into producing beats? Especially considering that you’re a jazz sax player…
A: I started producing beats when I first started my grad studies at ASU. I had a bit of extra cash from scholarships and grants around so instead of saving it I decided to buy a bunch of cool recording and producing equipment – midi controller, monitors, USB interface, etc. Around this time, I had started listening to a lot of intriguing electronic music like Flying Lotus, Mndsgn, and Daedelus. I had never heard standalone beats like theirs before and I saw it as something I could do by myself in the comfort of my own room…so I decided I would give it a shot. It’s been a very challenging and rewarding endeavor ever since.
